MEET PETER GRAY – INDUSTRY’S FOREMOST EDITORIAL STYLIST

Recognized for his exceptional cutting skills and lightness of touch, Peter Gray is among the world’s foremost hair stylists. He rose to prominence at the end of the 1990s through innovative photographic partnerships with experimental fashion photographers including Sølve Sundsbø, Miles Aldridge and Richard Burbridge that established Gray as a leading force in the field of creative hair. Revered in the fashion industry for his manically creative cutting techniques and technical excellence, Gray’s career in hair was formed at Vidal Sassoon in London, where he relocated from South Africa in the late 1980s. He swiftly progressed through the company’s legendary training schemes to become their International Editorial Director, where he brought expertise and creative ideas to students and staff across the world through teaching in their academies. This position led to a product development consultancy with Procter & Gamble that lasted until 2002. A proponent of environmental sustainability, Gray then began working with Aveda as International Editorial Consultant, advising on ecologically-responsible product development and photographic content until 2005. Since then, Gray has collaborated with L’Oréal Professionnel, L’Oréal Paris UK, Moroccanoil®, Goldwell and Aveda, among others.

Gray is an imaginative image-maker, contributing to editorial shoots for a range of luxury and style titles including Italian, American and British Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Numéro, Pop, Purple, CR Fashion Book, i-D, Another and V Magazine. The informality and quiet conceptualism of his styling has earned him advertising campaigns for brands including Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Lanvin, Shu Uemura, Lancôme and Moschino. Gray has also created statement runway looks for prestige fashion houses such as Armani Privé, Gabriele Colangelo, Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith, Max Mara, Junya Watanabe and Maison Martin Margiela. Gray’s celebrity clients include Kate Bosworth, Amber Heard, Cara Delevingne, Naomi Watts, Robin Wright and Rihanna.
