CATWALK FOR WATER 2016

On Sunday, May 1st, Aveda Canada showcased its debut Catwalk for Water, presented by top industry hair artists: Lupe Voss, Peter Gray, and Frank Rizzieri, and host, Ray Civello, along with sponsor, Mont Pellier - Global fashion platform. The event brought together Canadian hair & fashion talent to showcase the very best in hair artistry and fashion design, built on the foundation of the Aveda Mission, and in the spirit of giving back. All funds raised from the event were donated directly to WaterAid Canada in support of Aveda’s Earth Month Campaign.
The show included: 30 models, 24 hair stylists & colourists, and 24 local designers, that created editorial fashion and hair inspired by water, and created from earth-friendly materials.
Catwalk for Water was a full-day affair, beginning with the “All Access Experience” at Aveda Institute Toronto from morning to evening. At the Institute, participating hair artists including a group of our very own Civello hair artists, took part in a hair colouring or styling workshop with Lupe, Peter and Frank who guided them throughout the creation of their Catwalk-ready hair designs on each of their own models. Additionally, models were suited in sustainably crafted garments made from recycled denim by emerging fashion designers, brought in by Mont Pellier.
That evening, over 200 stylists, salon owners and staff, bloggers, style entrepreneurs and editors of various publications congregated at Daniels Spectrum in Toronto to witness this epic event. Aveda Canada President & CEO, Ray Civello hosted the full Catwalk for Water, and spoke passionately towards the incredible talent that lives in Canada’s hair and fashion industries. Event sponsor, Mont Pellier, also awarded seven of the participating fashion designers at the show with funding to produce eco-friendly & sustainable collections. The looks were judged by a panel of Canadian fashion elite.
The event was a huge success, raising an astonishing $28,600, which will directly transform the lives of 1,144 people in Madagascar, forever – providing them with access to safe water, hygiene, and sanitation.
